The bright, sunny and breezy conditions that prealed suggested it had the makings of a good rugby Spa Day.
On lining up, both teams looked ready to go. After the whistle Walsall were soon into their stride and their impressive start produced some quick scores. There came a time though when both sides appeared to struggle in catching and moving the ball. It appeared that the low angle of the bright sunlight and the strong cross winds were affecting play. As the game progressed Walsall gained control in all aspects and continued to pile on the points. The game was becoming very entertaining and we witnessed excellent bouts of passing, running and tactical play.
It was good to see the Walsall Whippet, Dean Ainger, score with his signature flying try, Chev Taylor's one handed touchdowns and Will Hennessy, being on fire with his kicking skills It was interesting to see the tactical play from the scrum, involving Dean Ainger, Ben Pitt and Chev Taylor, with led to tries. The positional changes of Ben Pitt and Will Hennessy seems to have consolidated Walsall's game Currently with every squad member being on top of their game and, avoiding injuries, it bodes well for the future.
Enjoyment and entertainment were in abundance with the second half being a repaeat of the first half. Our youthful squad, supportd by our seasoned and experienced players played out the eighty minute contest to end up victorious 99 points to 12.
A most entertaining game based on the fact and in fairness to Droitwich they never stopped playing and to a referee who allowed the game to flow and kept control in an inconspicuous way.
Thank you all for the entertainment.
